Delores Kleinsasser, 85, died on Feb. 7, 2019 at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home, Freeman, S.D. Delores was born on Feb. 11, 1933 to Mathias (Math) J. Kleinsasser and Susanna (Susie) Hofer Kleinsasser in Freeman. Her siblings were Clarence (d.1997), Lelia (d.1991), Alice (d.1943), Dr. Glenn (d. 2016) and Alfred “Duke” (d.2016).
Delores was a member of Bethany Mennonite Church. Delores graduated from Freeman High School in 1951. She continued her education at Freeman Junior College, graduating in 1952. She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1956.
After working as a nurse for a number of years, she wanted to be a school teacher. Delores graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor of art in 1966 and master of art in 1980. She also graduated from Dakota State College with a bachelor of science in 1977.
Delores taught school for many years. Her desire was to get her doctor of education and she earned this honor from the University of South Dakota in 1985. She was made an Honorary Professor of Education Administration and taught for two summers at USD.
Delores loved to write poetry and short stories, enjoyed nature and being with family and friends.
Delores is survived by her sister-in-law, Sherry Kleinsasser; and nieces and nephews: Kay Plucker (Joesph), Janet Graber (Todd), Diane Kaldum, Patty Johnson (Doug) and Carter Kleinsasser (Jess).
A service was held Feb. 12 at the Bethany Mennonite Church, with Pastor Shane VanMeveren officiating. Interment was in the Freeman City Cemetery; pallbearers were Todd Graber, Micah Graber, Joseph Plucker, Mace Plucker and Carter Kleinsasser.
