Lois Lorraine (Herzberg) McGlothlen was born on May 28, 1930 in Huron, South Dakota to Paul and Grace (Sweeten) Herzberg. She passed away on March 24, 2019 at the age of 88.
Lois attended a one-room community country school for the first eight grades and then attended high school in Hitchcock, SD. She attended a business school in Huron for one year. Lois was employed by a newspaper company in Huron for a short time and then moved to Fargo, ND and Aberdeen, SD. She eventually relocated in Sioux Falls, SD where she worked for the Gas Company and for Handyman for many years.
Lois married Orville Johnston on September 9, 1956 and they raised their son, Roger, on an acreage near Canton, SD. She married Robert McGlothlen on November 24, 1977 and they made their home by Lake Alvin. They owned the Town and Country Ceramic Shop. The ceramic business was a first-love for Lois, a hobby that she enjoyed doing for many years. In 2015, Lois made her home with her son in Bridgewater, SD until her passing.
Lois was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sioux Falls and the Trinity Community Church in Bridgewater. Lois also enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends and spending time with family and friends.
Lois is survived by her son, Roger, of Bridgewater, and two grandchildren, Cristina Rose and Jeremy Johnston, both of Sioux Falls; three great-grandchildren,Ryann, Jason, and Ashia Hammer of Canton, SD; and three step-children, Michael (Linda) McGlothlen, Diane (Craig) Culver, and Nancy (Bruce ) Votroub, all of South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Norman (Ruth) Herzberg of Huron.
